MARSHALL COUNTY, Okla. -- It was a quite a dramatic scene near Madill Thursday morning when a dog fell in a roadside hole along Highway 70. The sheriff's office, the Madill Police Department, and the dog catcher all responded to the call.

The hole, right along Highway 70 in Oakland right on the edge of Madill, is at least nine-feet deep, without any barriers or warning signs.

The dog fell in sometime overnight, and it was quite the ordeal to get him out.

"I heard barking in that hole--it’s been open for two days. I've been afraid a kid would fall in and couldn't possibly get out of that hole. A grown person can not get out of that hole"" Gary Minor, of nearby business Minor Printing, said.

The Madill Police Department is trying to figure out whose dog it is. Call the Madill Police Department at 580-795-2387 if you have any information.

As for the hole, it's still there, and it is still unmarked.

The dog was tranquilized and carried out of the hole - he was then checked over by a vetrinarian to make sure he was okay, then taken to the shelter in Madill - If the owner is not located, he may be put down after a short period. I hope he is adopted as he doesn't deserve to be put down. THANKS to the people who cared enough to see that he was rescued - hope the ending is just as happy.

Poor pup. Hard to imagine there being such a huge hole in the ground with no barriers. If it were a human, absolute law suit. Doe'w anybody know if the dog was injured, (broken bones etc..)?

There's going to be a flurry of people wanting to adopt the dog now, because he's "famous"...

If they'd just had a sign up, the dog would have known what kind of danger he was in! /// The owner would have put an ad in the paper, but the dog can't read. //Maybe he was just trying to bury a bone and got carried away. //

Looks like the city is just asking for a lawsuit! What a bunch of idiots, at least put up barriers or rope off the area.
