FANNIN COUNTY, Tex. -- The last thing you might think about in an emergency is the cost of medical care, but when the bills start rolling in, the costs can be overwhelming. Stephanie Brletic explains how Fannin County residents can now cut their medical bills by thousands of dollars.
"It’d be great. $50, I mean most anybody could come up with $50," Fannin County resident Lula Wright says.
Affordability is the main reason Careflight is offering this new medical transport insurance plan in Fannin County. Spokespeople say they want to help you avoid paying thousands of extra dollars for ambulance or medical helicopter trips.
They are offering transportation service for just $49 a year if you have insurance, and that cost covers your entire family.
"In most instances somewhere between $2,000-$3,000 is the typical patient responsibility and if you have a member membership you don't get that bill, we accept your insurance as payment in full."
Careflight CEO Jim Swartz says that if you don't have insurance, the $49 annual fee will get you a 50% discount on any of their charges.
Fannin County commissioners approved the sale of this insurance to residents on Monday. County Judge Butch Henderson says the partnership with Careflight will let residents get the help they need fast without worrying about the price tag.
"I would hate for someone not to be able to have that opportunity when they needed it- if for a small annual fee of $49, they could be a member and have that," Fannin County Judge Butch Henderson Says.
That $50, Henderson says, could save you thousands in the long run.
Fannin County officials say Life Star also offers a similar plan in the area.
