DALLAS COUNTY, TX -- The mayor of Celina is speaking out after a lawsuit was filed against him in a Dallas court. Mayor Corbett Howard is named in a suit filed by the Richardson law firm Brown and Hofmeister.
The city of Celina originally hired Brown and Hofmeister as representation for the annexation of Preston Hills, a group of neighborhoods outside the city.
Howard says in a written statement the city filed a suit last year saying the firm misrepresented them.
Mayor Howard says he is disturbed by the lawsuit and calls it "frivolous."
In a statement he released Monday, Howard said:
“There are ulterior motives at play here, and I am extremely confident that this matter will be dismissed promptly. Their retaliatory lawsuit is nothing more than an attempt to deflect attention away from their poor performance for the City of Celina as detailed in our original lawsuit.”
Robert Tobey, an attorney for Brown and Hofmeister, says the lawsuit was filed because Howard and a former city administrator, Scott Albert, acted fraudulently by failing to disclose key information to the firm regarding alleged disputes over the annexation of Preston Hills.
