SHERMAN, Tex. -- An accident involving an S & S school bus happened just after 6:30 Wednesday morning on West Highway 82 near Jeff's Automotive at FM 1417.

Witnesses say a pick-up truck hit the school bus in the rear as the bus was pulling away from a stop.

According to one parent, the truck was trying to pass the bus when the accident happened as traffic on both sides of the highway was stopped. The driver of the Ford F-250 swerved to avoid the stopped traffic and rear-ended the school bus.

Children on the bus were checked out by EMS. No serious injures have been reported.

Parents are calling for a change along this stretch of road where they say people are in a hurry in the morning and evening and an accident like this was just waiting to happen.

No word on if or what charges the driver will face.

IF YOU TAKE A ROUTE THAT YOU GET STUCK BY THIS SCHOOL BUS EVERYDAY AND YOUR IN A HURRY THEN LEAVE YOUR HOUSE EARLIER SO THAT YOU WILL MISS THE BUS AND WILL NOT TRY AND PASS IT OR HIT IT

the school bus WAS out of the traffic lane. she was on the shoulder of the road. the guy was came around the 2 stopped lanes onto the shoulder and rear ended the bus. the hearald democrat did not do the promised article in sundays paper and kxii wont return my calls. it seems as though no one wants to address the issue of school bus safety and educate drivers on the law. i quess that texoma's children aren't worth their time. that is REALLY sad!

why doesn't the school bus pull of the roadway out of the lane of traffic? could it not pull into a drive way on have a safe place for the kids to catch the bus. my kids were injured on a bus accident and the school didn't even notify me until my daughter slipped out of the class room and called me. she still has medical problems from those injuries and this was years ago. maybe the parents could get with the county commissioners and see if they would build a site for the kids to all get on the bus in a safe area. good luck

1 child can get seriously hurt on a school bus and its hits national news.... 5 kids can get killed in a car wreck and it makes local news. school buses are still the safest transportation even without seatbelts the seats are well padded for this reason. like Anonymous said who is going to help get all those little kids out of those seatbelts fast enough if the need is to evacuate the bus quickly

School buses are safer than your car even without seatbelts. if your child would stay in their seats like they are told they would be less likely to get hurt. Most of the children now days have no respect for the rules of the bus. The seat are high and well padded but most children can not see over them and will not listen. I know most of you are going to say NOT MY CHILD they stay in their seat.......Ha!!! I drive a school bus you don't know what they do. We turn them in and parents think we are picking on their child. All buses do not have camers

but think about this..alot of little and i said little children can't manuever a seat belt quickly. what if a bus wrecks and it's serious.. how long is it going to take one bus driver to help many children get those seat belts off. and research shows that buses are one of the safest form of travel... (look it up on the internet)

I believe we need sit belts in our children buses. I have my child come tell me the bus driver makes a sudden stop and all the children hit their head on the sit infront of them. If its the law for us to wear our sit belts. Why not the school buses. For the safety of our children.

Denison I agree with you, you people out there need to pay attention, that is the bottom line, we would have less wrecks on the highway if people would just WAKE UP and pay attention!!!!

Let's stop arguing. I'm glad you can take your children to school and they are safely buckled in, however, the reality that most parents on the HWY 82 route face is that we live so far from the school that because of our jobs we CAN'T take our children to school and must depend on the bus. My kids were the ones boarding yesterday and if this accident had happened 30 seconds sooner I might have lost them. The Hearld Democrat said today that they will address this issue @ bus safety on Sunday. I hope that everyone will encourage their friends to read the article. I have done all I can by myself to make the public aware. Maybe KXII can't do a feature too? Or maybe the people who have posted comments could make a few phone calls? If everyone speaks out together maybe we can keep another accident from happening.
