FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - Governor Rick Perry today activated the state's Emergency Operations Center to help deal with Texas
Haze blanketed several cities in North, Central and West Texas as wildfires were fanned by strong winds.
Swift-moving flames consumed about 2,000 acres of fields and forced home evacuations in Tarrant, Wise, Parker, Burnet, Nolan and Callahan counties.
At least two dozen buildings were destroyed.
No injuries or deaths had been reported.
Oncor says about 75,000 homes and businesses were without electricity across North Texas.
Some 152 counties -- more than half the 252 counties in Texas --
are under a burn ban.
