SHERMAN, Tex. -- A few people were out having fun at the Sherman Police Rifle Range, but they weren't there for target practice. The men were trespassing on four-wheelers.

When officers pulled up Tuesday, the four suspects took off. Three of them got away, but the fourth man's ATV became stuck in a creek. He bailed off and ran but officers eventually caught him. He was arrested for criminal trespassing and claims he did not know the others who were also out riding.

To Bubba Redneck: Just because you pay taxes doesn't mean you have the right to access everything your tax money goes towards. Does your employer demand use of your property on the grounds that they pay you, therefore, they are the real owners? Some people's children...

My "oh, the scandal" comment was meant tongue-in-cheek. It hardly seems newsworthy that 4 guys were out 4 wheeling on what is pretty much pastureland. The "shooting range" is the old city sewer plant that was abandonded somewhere back in the 70's if memory serves. That whole area was city sewer plant and city dump many years ago. Yes, technically the 4 wheelers were "trespassing", I just don't see that it is that big of a deal. As to stray bullets, if cops were shooting, the 4 wheelers would be long gone, and the cops actually shoot at an old concrete structure surrounded by a dirt mound, known to people in the wastewater world as a "digester" structure.

just a question here is the shooting range just for police officers only??and if so who pays for the up keep of it???and if it is paid for by city which gets their money from taxs payers..then why can't the public have access to the range to do some shooting???

Maybe Dave & Kelly like trespassing on private property too. To bad the one person has to take the blame for the other three. They all could have been hit by airborn bullet!!!!! Dumb......

Dave, nobody mentioned scandal. I think KXII was just reporting facts. And maybe, just maybe some reasonable folks would catch the idea that joy riding on a shooting range could be deadly...And Kelly it just may have been that the officers were trying to prevent an unnecessary shooting "scandal" that Dave is craving.
