MURRAY COUNTY, OK -- For at least the second time, residents in Murray County will vote on a 5% lodging tax. A committee in Murray County known as the ‘Long Range Planning Committee' claims to be a firm supporter of the tax.

In 2004, the vote failed by 59 votes. The Long Range Planning Committee says with new facilities coming into the county, such as The Artesian Hotel, they need to take advantage of the potential tourist dollars that would benefit the county

"We have a lot of products in Murray County. We really feel like we need to take advantage of the visitors we have in the area," Murray County Long Range Planning Committee member Kim Little says.

Money from the tax if passed will be used to promote tourism in the county by the county’s tourism authority.

If it passes, the tax will go into effect April 1.
