DENISON, Tex. -- Local doctors’ waiting rooms have been busy the past few days as an increased number of cases of influenza are being reported.

Doctors say the bug has really hit hard this winter, but it is children in Texoma who are getting it the worst.

Pediatricians are seeing in increased number of patients as their offices have been slammed with sick children. There is even a deadly strain of the virus going around, but Texoma Medical Center pediatrician Dr. Joseph Lipscomb says it’s not something we should be worried about here.

"There is a deadly strain in China, but it is not here," Dr. Lipscomb says.

Dr. Lipscomb says the flu vaccine will not protect from all strains of the flu virus, but it is still very important to be vaccinated, and he encourages anyone who is sick to see their physician immediately in order to reduce the sick time.
