ARDMORE, Okla. -- A local Oklahoma state representative says he is giving back a campaign contribution from a man with ties to insurance companies.
District 48 representative Greg Piatt (R) accepted a $5,000 contribution from Bradford Phillips in 2007. Phillips is the son of Texas businessman Gene Phillips.
The elder Phillips was accused of bribing former state insurance commissioner Carroll Fisher.
Piatt says House Speaker Chris Benge encouraged him to return the money.
Piatt tells us the circumstances surrounding the Phillips name was what ultimately prompted him to return the funds.
