SHERMAN, Tex. -- Sherman crews worked a car fire on the access road of U.S. Highway 75 just north of Fallon Drive around noon Wednesday.

The car was completely engulfed in flames when fire fighters arrived on the scene, but luckily no one was inside at the time.

Sherman Fire Chief Jeff Jones says the owner of the car was unable to be located.

Officials are still investigating the fire.

Knowing Bystander, I hate to inform you that your statement is not correct. Firemen and EMS personnel eat out quite often. They also spend a lot of time performing building inspections, hydrant checks, etc. They are NOT required to stay in their stations.

Either the car was stolen and set on fire, or it's some sort of insurance fraud...

Richie-The police units are closer because they are already out and about. The city has restricted firefighters from performing daily activities that the cops can still do. The firefighters are only to be at the station unless they are training. Maybe one should have all the facts before making demeaning comments such as this. As a matter of fact, the fireman are not allowed to go "out to eat." They have to cook at the station or bring somehthing from home. How many cops do you see at local restaurants though. Please get the facts before assuming. These firefighters are just doing what they've been instructed to do. A little appreciation for risking their lives for people like you would be nice!

I could see this car on fire from my classroom window. My kids were very interested in it.

I witnessed this incident. How is it, that THREE Sherman Police units were on the scene well before ANY Fire Dept units arrived? Oops, I forgot, it was lunchtime.
