ARDMORE, Okla. -- There were a lot of smiling faces Thursday morning in Ardmore as parents dropped off their kids at school.

Students at Charles Evans Elementary got a sneak peek of their new school Wednesday when they toured parts of the new building. The excitement continued Thursday as the first day of classes was officially launched.

Teachers and administrators are happy to get a new facility as are the students that spoke with us. A lot of parents told us they did not have any problems getting their young ones out of bed Thursday morning.

We will show you more of the new school on First News at Five and Six.

Here's some news from a great friend at CE. The school system did not build enough regular classrooms to seat all students so they turned some specialty rooms into classrooms. Parts of the cafeteria is not complete. Picking up students takes a little longer now, imagine if it was the super-elementary school! On a brighter side, dropping off students is quicker and more efficient, but would be longer if it were the super-elementary. Music is still taught in the old building. The city hasn't painted crosswalks yet. They did not build a gymnasium for students to have PE when raining or cold. Depending on how you look at it, classrooms seem to be a little bigger, but not by much. And Lincoln's special ed students are to be moved to CE for their new facilities.
