ARDMORE, Okla. -- A new year means a new set of books for Ardmore businesses, and business is looking good! According to the Ardmore Chamber of Commerce, the convention center is doing better than expected at the end of 2007, its third year of operation. The facility hosted more than 200 events alone last year. There were about as many the previous year, as well. Leaders with the chamber say taxpayers made a good investment in approving the convention center's construction.
Wes Stucky is the Ardmore Chamber of Commerce President. He says, “The funding for the center really began with the sales tax. The half cent sales tax that was passed in 2002. It was for two years only so it expired in 2004 but that generated about four and a half million dollars."
As far as what is in store for 2008, officials are aggressively trying to drum up more business from across the river in Texas. They say Ardmore is a natural choice for companies who have dealings in both Dallas and Oklahoma City.
