SHERMAN, Tex. -- The new Veterans’ Association community-based Outpatient Clinic opened Tuesday morning in Sherman. A ceremony Tuesday morning set the pace for this new facility located on Loy Lake Road in Sherman.

The clinic is a part of the Bonham VA. Mayor Bill Magers, County Judge Drue Bynum and several veterans took part in the dedication.

Clinic officials tell us next to this medical building, the closest clinic for veterans of foreign wars is Denton, Texas.

The new building houses eight exam rooms and includes two to three providers with room for growth.

"I think the great thing about these clinics is they are just like local doctors’ offices. We do primary care and give veterans who need help better access to health care and soon we can provide mental health care within these clinics," veteran outreach director Chris Metson says.

This is all very good for us VETS. Bonham is a very good facility, and it is not too far to travel for most North Texas VETs. However, as far as straight up hospital facilities go, I really think that the Veterans Administration should check into obtaining the old Texoma Medical Center building after the new facility is built.
