DURANT, Okla. - Some campsites at Lake Texoma are still in need of repair from last years floods. Durant Chamber of Commerce Director Janet Reed says the Army Corps of Engineers is waiting to see how much funding will come in before repairs are made. The money is needed to fix plumbing and electrical wires and to buy materials to rebuild what was damaged.

Reed says once that happens, they will need volunteers to come out and help finish the job.

Reed says they want the campsites to be finished soon, because of the economic impact campers have on the area.

"There are several campsites not open and realistically, they may not open. But we are working to get as many opened for the public as possible for spring and summer," Reed says.

Skilled professionals will also be needed to volunteer their time, like running plumbing and electrical wires, in order to have campgrounds ready for visitors.

Hey Doris, how about NOT buying a generator and the fuel to run it, and donate that $ to the sick and elderly?

so the camping areas don't have electricity and water. BUY A GENERATOR AND BRING YOUR OWN WATER DA i really think there are more important isssues that the money could be spent on instead of worring about the stupid lake. look around at the elderly and sick that could use help. go back to nature. pee in the woods.

What they are talking about is electrical and water services. Most of those need to be replaced after sitting under the muddy flood waters. Budgets for the the parks are very tight now due to all the money being spent on the war.

SO JUST HOW MUCH MONEY DOES IT TAKE TO CLEAN UP BRUSH THAT IS PILED UP AROUND THE LAKE. MAYBE WHEN IT RAINS THE CORPS EMPLOYEES CAN GET OUT OF THEIR VEHICLES AND PILE UP BRUSH AND BURN IT. IF SOMEONE WANTS TO CAMP DON'T CHARGE FOR THE CAMPING SPOT AND MAYBBE THEY WILL CLEAN UP THE AREA THAT THEY WANT TO CAMPIN. THAT IS THE WAY WE DO WHEN WE GO UP TO LAKE EUFAULA. WE TRY TO CLEAN UP AND LEAVE THE AREA CLEANER THAT WE FOUND IT. GET OFF YOUR LAZY REAR ENDS AND DO SOME WORK INSTEAD OF DRIVING AROUND WASTING GAS AND GRIPPING. MAYBE POINTE VISTA SHOULD LOOK AT BUYING UP ALL OF LAKE TEXOMA AND AT LEAST THEY HAVE THE WANT TO TO DO SOMETHING WITH THIS MESS. WHY DOESN'T THE CORPS START DREDGING OUT THE LAKE BEFORE IT FILLS UP AND THEN WHERE DO THEY THINK ALL THE FINE CAMP GROUNDS WILL BE AT. UNDER MUD.IT IS A SHAME THAT THIS LAKE AREA HAS GONE DOWN AND THAT NO ONE CARES THAT IT IS FILLING UP AT A RAPID RATE.
