SILO, Okla. -- This week’s A+ Athlete is Cody Stephens of Silo High School.. A three-time state champion third baseman, Cody was a Sunbelt Classic selection two years in a row, an American Legion AA national champion this year, and an all-conference selection. Besides being a star on the diamond, Cody plays basketball as well.
Cody thanks his father for his competitive drive and uses that challenge to make his teammates better.
“My dad went pretty far in baseball, so I’d like to make it a little further, and show him up a little bit,” Cody says.
Cody’s off-the-field success is clear to see. He is ranked second in his class with a 3.78 grade point average. He's been student of the month and is on the superintendent’s honor roll. His high level of success may seem difficult to achieve, but Cody doesn't think it's so complicated.
“I think mainly it's responsibility. It’s not that hard to make good grades, as long as you turn in your work. It’s pretty simple, actually,” Cody says.
It is easy to see how this great outlook has helped him in other places. Cody has a keen artistic ability, and he even designed the school's yearbook cover. He is highly involved in Silo Baptist Church as well and will even go on mission trip this summer.
As for the fall, he's not sure where he wants to attend college but plans on playing baseball and pursing an art degree.
Congratulations to Cody on being named this week’s A+ Athlete.
