GRAYSON COUNTY, Tex. -- Bids for the Highway 289 extension project were announced Thursday morning at the Grayson County Courthouse. Over 40 contractors received the engineers’ specifications for the highway project over the past month.

On Thursday, five bids were read turned in and read aloud.

County officials say they are pleased with the results of the bidding and are anxious to get construction started next month. Workers are scheduled to break ground on March 25.

"I think the challenge is going to be the timeline to try and get it done in 18 months, but the project is doable," TX-DOT area engineer Kevin Harris says.

The winning bid and contractor will be announced on Monday at commissioners’ court.

Can we ship some of our Oklahoma DOT people down to watch and learn? First lesson: don't always take the lowest bid. You need Dramamine on our roads up here!

Regarding 289 thru Grayson and into Pottsboro. What kind of zoning exists in that area of the county regarding business/housing construction and an attempt to control quality and while preserving the natural beauty of the area? It would be a shame if rampant speculation and construction wasted the land resources of western Grayson county.
