Safe Family: Pesticide rules

Warmer weather means more outdoor activities, and many people will once again be using pesticides to control those pesky pests.

It's the sound of spring and summer. Getting the lawn mower out is just one sign the warmer weather is moving in, along with the bugs and other pests. Customers at Lowe's Home Improvement in Sherman are busy buying what they need to get prepared.

The good news is that many pesticides on store shelves are virtually harmless to you, your children and your pets, but it's still a good idea to keep them away from the actual product, as well as pesticides freshly placed in the yard.

"New chemicals are safe for kids and pets, but if you use the granular pesticides, make sure you water it down before letting the kids or pets out," says Cliff Powell at Lowe's Home Improvement in Sherman.

You will also need to protect yourself when handling pesticides.

"Especially on windy days, wear goggles and a mask." Powell says.

Spring is a wonderful time to enjoy the great outdoors. Just do it safely, so you can enjoy a happy season.
