SHERMAN, TX - Austin college has a brand-new art studio complex. AC held a dedication ceremony Friday for the Betsy Dennis Forster Art Complex.
Forster is an AC alumni who, along with her husband, gave more than $4,000,000 to help fund the 20,000-square-foot facility.
There is also a gallery inside the complex, exhibiting Mrs. Forster's landscape art designs.
The new facility, designed by Cunningham Architects of Dallas, includes faculty offices, small classrooms and dedicated studio space for painting, photography, drawing, and fundamentals, as well as a darkroom.
The Forster Art Studio Complex will support both academic programs and public outreach, including exhibition opportunities for students. The facility also opens possibilities for broader curricular offerings, such as gallery management, art history and training in the technical preparation of exhibitions.
Faculty members from the Department of Art and Art History plan to begin classes in the new complex as soon as possible.
