COLBERT, Okla. - Colbert residents met Tuesday night with city council members to discuss the city's $100,000 deficit.

The city attorney says due to recent mis-management of city funds, books were not kept and bills were not paid.

Now the city owes about $100,000 to the IRS and other agencies. The IRS says they need a payment plan set up by this Friday. So at Tuesday night’s meeting, city leaders voted to use money from the police department's general fund to make an initial $36,000 payment.

City Attorney Theresa McGehee says, "Now what Colbert has to do is tighten the belt. Get through the mess. We have a great city council and good turnout tonight. People understand and agree that we can't ignore it, so let's deal with it."

The city attorney says it's important to know the $100,000 was not stolen, it was just not used properly.

Please don't take anything to heart anything the coucilwoman states!! She believes her own lies and convinces herself that it is the truth!! OMG I voted for her.... and I think Joe might be on to something!! I had money mysteriously come up missing from my office when Smith and your new chief(who had prior history) broke in the door. Guess who got blamed?? Hell..blamed? how about fired?? My 4th amendment right to be secure in my person, property, and papers was violated. By the way.... how does the town administrator know when an arrest is being made ahead of time or a search warrant being executed before it happens?? sounds like a leak from the police!! Man I miss the good 'ol times of being asked about everyone in towns police business!! Someone should tell her its not her business!!! ok I will....ITS NOT YOUR BUSINESS!! Do YOUR job... get homes built and bring businesses and jobs to the community...stay out of the police dept.!!! Thanks and oh yeah....LUV YA!!

incompetence on the part of the city council and city managers, both present and past, continues to raise it's ugly head. If the council really wants to SERVE, then they will not accept their monthly pay and apply it to the bill. after all, they haven't earned a cent since they have been in office.

That's only 11 traffic tickets a day (@ 95.00 each) for 90 days. There are more speeders breaking the law (15mph over the limit) every minute or so on Hwy 69/75.

The water bill already went up $12.00 for improvement. That was back in the fall. There has been no improvement in my water. How long is that supposed to last?

"The city attorney says it's important to know the $100,000 was not stolen, it was just not used properly" my question is who is she covering up for? U know someone took the money but who did is the question and who all is going to coverup for that person or persons? Another question is how deep does the coverup go, does it go all the way to the governors office? Is that why they wont come into Colbert and take over? Just a few things to think over!

if you think that colbert is not listed as a speed trap then go to oklahoma speed traps and see what pops up. i have never got a ticket for speeding but i see plenty of texas drivers sitting on the side of the road getting them.
