ADA, OK -- After two Ada High School students went before their local board of education and pointed the finger at one of their teachers, accusing her of providing alcohol and prescription drugs to students, the teacher accused of those allegations is firing back.

Daniel Luhman was one of two students who went before the Ada Board of Education in February and said he was being harassed by Ada High School English teacher Kathy Lowry. Luhman also said she provided alcohol to minors and handed out valium on at least one occasion.

KXII-TV learned over the weekend that Kathy Lowry has now filed a civil lawsuit alleging slander and libel.

Teacher Kathy Lowry is suing student Daniel Luhman and his mother, Rachel Vick. Also named in the court papers are Sharon Dean, who is also a school employee, and someone else named Christy Dean.

It is unclear exactly how those people fit into all of this, or why Jane Cooper-- the other student who spoke out at the school board meeting -- is not mentioned.

As far as the school's investigation, those results have not been made public at this time. We did contact Mrs. Lowry's attorney Monday afternoon, but she had no comment.

Daniel Luhman and his mother said they do plan to fight this suit. They deny any wrongdoing.

Ahh Republican...would that be the sound of yet another constitutional right that you and your ilk are flushing down the drain?

Republican: I believe the term is innocent until proven guilty (unless you get a really good lawyer to get you off). I think it’s about time she fires back; she has let them drag her through the dirt long enough. Besides, what kind of example/values are the parents showing their kids by allowing this to continue. It looks like it all got way to out of hand and now there are too many people involved to reverse the damage. There are going to be a lot of tears and regrets when this is all said and done.

This teacher is guilty of everything she has been accused of until she can prove that the things she's accused of are not true. The teacher has to prove she is not the monster these people claim she is. I guess just about every school staff and student will be summoned to testify in court now. This law suit only makes the situation worse for everyone.

Good for her. Having been in a situation where someone tells lies about you or a loved one, I know how she feels having lies told about her and making her look bad. Good thing they are in Oklahoma and do not have to endure a LENGTHY trial period under the hands of Lauri Blake.

I figured as much.....this just smelled funny from the git-go. Probably way more behind this than the little punks want us to know. Good luck to the teacher that was drug through the coals. I hope you win your lawsuit.

I do not know the circumstances in this case. I have, however, seen several teachers falsely accused of misconduct, so I admire a teacher who is brave enough to fight back. (That's especially true because people tend to believe the student, not the teacher, no matter what the accusation is!)

Sound to me like the kids and parents just want some money out of all this, I don't blame the teacher for fighting back and its a kids word against the teacher, sound to me like they are all ganging up on this teacher, until you have proof don't accuse anyone of anything
