SOUTHMAYD, Tex. - When you take Highway 56 through Southmayd at school time, you may want to slow down.
There are new school zone signs up that will be flashing as a reminder to slow down to 35 miles per hour.
The community has come together after a fatal accident last October and has been working since to get a posted speed limit.
Mayor Daniel Pepe says it will work if drivers pay attention. "Hopefully we can prevent this sorrow from coming to anyone else if everybody would please, please slow down and observe what's in place."
Pepe says starting April 7th, the school zone speed limit will be enforced with zero tolerance.
