ARDMORE, Okla. -- In a surprise development in the case against Jason Scallion in Ardmore, the suspect has pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter. Scallion was to stand trial this week after being involved in the 2007 beating death of Steven Paul Goddard.

That trial will now not happen, because Scallion has pleaded guilty to charges of first degree manslaughter. He initially planned to fight those charges in court, and asked for a trial but apparently changed his mind.

The other adult accused in the case, Deondrae Maytubby, has already pleaded guilty in a deal with prosecutors.

Scallion will be sentenced in April.

Oklahoma really needs to be more like Texas with the death penalty and all!!! Do you think spanking them and releasing them is going to make them productive citizens? They were not before this and they sure will not be after they get out, nor will the lil counterpart thugs that were with them!
