SHERMAN, Tex. -- The family of a fallen soldier is honored by a member of their law enforcement family.

Harvey Smitherman, an investigator with the Grayson County Sheriff's Office, received a flag from reserve officer Stacy Lindley, who just returned from his fourth tour of duty in Iraq.

The flag flew in Basra, and Lindley says was the least he could do for Smitherman. His son, Brandon, died last fall serving in Iraq.

"It's an honor for the support and to know that a flag like this is being flown over in Iraq where so many other soldiers over there facing the same fate as my son, and with God's help, everyone can be home safe real soon," Harvey Smitherman says.

Smitherman says he plans to fly the flag at his home.

God Bless the soldiers that have sacrificed so much for us. The freedom we take advantage of every day is the freedom these young men and women give up to protect it for us. God Bless You!!

Thank you so much for raising such a great son! I can not say anything to take your pain away but hold your head high and remember the memories. Glad to know we have another great angel in heaven to watch over and help us out here.
