PURCELL, Okla. (AP) - The man convicted of the brutal killing of a 10-year-old Purcell girl showed no emotion as he is formally sentenced to death by injection.
Kevin Ray Underwood is to die for the murder of Jamie Rose Bolin in what prosecutors say was a bizarre cannibalistic fantasy.
The jury that convicted Underwood recommended the death penalty and McClain County District Court Judge Candace Blalock Thursday formally handed down the sentence.
During his trial prosecutors played a videotape in which Underwood told investigators he beat the girl with a cutting board, suffocated her, sexually assaulted her and tried to cut off her head.
Her body was found stuffed in a plastic container in a closet in Underwood's apartment in the same complex where the girl lived with her father.
