SHERMAN, Tex. -- An accident Monday morning has claimed the life of a local educator. Penny Raines, 61, was the elementary school principal at Texoma Christian School. Police say she was killed in a head-on collision on Highway 75 near the South Loy Lake Road exit around 7:30 Monday morning.
Police say a car driven by Jeremy Sanders, 26, crossed the median into oncoming traffic, hitting Raines' car.
Raines died from her injuries. Her seven-year-old grandson was flown to Children’s Medical Center in Dallas. As of Tuesday afternoon, the boy was in ICU, having undergone surgery most of the day Monday.
Sanders was taken to Texoma Medical Center.
Members of the Texoma Christian School community say they are turning to their faith to help them through this tragedy.
"Although they might be sad, they can rejoice knowing Penny is in a better place with her Heavenly Father, and we deal with our sadness by remembering the good times and fun she was to be around," Jeff Burley at Texoma Christian School said.
