SHERMAN, Tex. -- We may not realize it, but the Supreme Court plays a role in every Americans’ daily life. On Monday, students and professionals took a good look at the court's impact on the United States during the Austin College Law Symposium.
Legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin was the keynote speaker at a luncheon and panel discussion.
Toobin and others gave their perspectives on how Supreme Court justices use their own opinions when making legal decisions. These issues took center stage since the president has appointed several new justices during his tenure.
"Is abortion going to be legal? Is affirmative action going to be legal? Should there be a separation of church and state? Should the Ten Commandments be posted? These are issues that affect people's lives, and the courts should have the last word," Toobin says.
The college hosts the event every year to give pre-law and other students a chance to look into the legal field.
