MARIETTA, Okla. – A Love County jury has found Ricky Rawlins, Jr. guilty of assault and battery with a deadly weapon for a second time.
Rawlins was tried and convicted of shooting of a 12-year-old boy in 2004. That decision was appealed and later thrown out on a technicality.
The jury deliberated for more than five hours Tuesday night before returning the verdict shortly after midnight.
Rawlins shot and severely wounded a 12-year-old Jacob Ayers in 2003, who was riding in a vehicle with his parents. The boy’s mother was attempting to serve Rawlins’ younger brother with court papers when the shooting occurred.
The recommended sentence is ten years in prison.
