DENISON, Tex. -- Funeral services for Texoma Christian School elementary principal Penny Raines were held Friday afternoon in Denison. Friends and family say the educator who was killed Monday in a car accident on Highway 75 will never be forgotten. Daniel Gotera has more.
Those who knew Penny Raines say she always put her kids-- whether they be her own or her students-- before anything else, and that is just one of many reasons why she will be remembered.
Penny Raines was killed Monday when the car she was driving was hit head-on by another car that had crossed the median on Highway 75.
Family and friends gathered at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Denison to remember her on Friday.
Raines has worked at Texoma Christian School for the last 15 years. Those who were close to her say she loved going to work everyday and working with the kids. One woman who went to school with Raines' son says she never complained about anything and was always there to help others.
"She just loved it. She was a great woman. She was a great example with kids, and she wanted the best for all of them," family friend Heidi Nelson said.
Authorities say the investigation into the accident that took Raines' life is ongoing. Her seven-year-old grandson who was riding with her at the time of the crash was hospitalized in critical condition, but has since been upgraded to stable condition.
