DENISON, Tex. -- The city of Denison is one step closer to a new library.

The city council voted to continue with plans for a new library this week, which means a bond election to pay for the project will be held.

Library staff sent out surveys to residents and say the site would be on Main Street, where the old high school used to be.

The date of the bond election has not yet been set.

We need a NEW high School. I'm sure that a library would be nice, but it's not NEEDED!! Our current HS was built in the 1950's. It's time to step up and build a new school for the students of Denison!!

There are many more important things for our city to worry about and build than a new library that will get used by a small percentage of the population. We have a lot bigger concerns to truely improve the city!

Ms/Mr Davis, for your information I found the powerpoint on a local website (while at the library). Me being able to attend a council meeting has nothing to do with it. Please don't use me to attack some Alvin guy. I have been following the library story because it is important to me. I think a new library would be the perfect place for my generation to go. Starbucks, a good book and a good location is just what we need. I am about to becoma a Sophmore and here you are screaming like a little kid.

OH PLEASE.....DO WE REALLY BELIEVE THAT A "CURRENT STUDENT" IS POSTING COMMENTS? THINK ABOUT IT! THEY ARE USING THE INTERNET AND TECHNOLOGY! IF THEY HAVE A WORLD OF TECHNOLOGY AT THEIR FINGERTIPS, ARE WE TO BELIEVE THAT THEY WOULD PREFER A NEW LIBRARY INSTEAD OF SOMETHING THAT HONESTLY APPEALS TO YOUNGER GENERATIONS?AND, HOW MANY STUDENTS HAVE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO SEE THE WONDERFUL POWERPOINT? LAST I HEARD, IT WAS SHOWN AT CITY COUNCIL MEETINGS - WHICH MOST STUDENTS DON'T ATTEND. AND, AT FOUNDATION, ETC. MEETINGS THAT ARE HELD DURING THE SCHOOL DAY! GIVE US A BREAK! SOUNDS LIKE ALVIN BAILEY IS TRYING TO ACT LIKE HE IS A STUDENT! NICE TRY, ALVIN!

Well, Raplh, I do find it important to build this library. Yes, the community puts in alot into our education, but we as students aren't the only thing that matters in this town. What about all the other people in Denison who aren't Denison students. I think they should get just as much resources as we have. Not all residents have the internet or are able to even afford it. Having this new library would be SO beneficial to this town. There has been a powerpoint about the design of the facility and in my opinion its what this city needs--an improvement. No one goes to the library we have now because it's out-of-date. Everyone DOES go and spend their money in Sherman too, I mean--honestly, what DO we have in this town?? A new library would just be a push in the right direction.

I find it remarkable that anyone can speak for or against a new library when the general public has been provided with very little information about the design of the facility, and given absolutely no indication as to how much property taxes will be increased in order to retire the debt that will be incurred to build it. To Current Student...while I admire your youthful enthusiasm, your future does NOT depend upon a new public library. Let's not overdramatize the situation. By the way, this community already invests quite a bit in your education and your future.

I will invest in your future by voting for the library.

I hope the citizens of Denison will vote for a new library. I am currently a freshman in HS and I use the Denison library often. The Denison Library has a lot of items and books the HS library does not have. A new library would be great. I hope the citizens can get past all their ill feels and vote for a new library...MY FUTURE DEPENDS ON IT. Since I will one day be a leader too, why won't you invest in my future? Please don't make your decision on hate...your children and grandchildren depend on you.
