CARTWRIGHT, OK - The violence continued this week in Iraq as an Army Special Forces soldier, with Oklahoma ties, was killed while trying to capture an al-Qaeda leader.

The Department of Defense says 29-year-old staff Sgt. Jason L. Brown of Magnolia, Texas, was killed early Thursday. Brown was a Special Forces engineer stationed at Fort Campbell, an army post along the Kentucky-Tennessee border.

Brown's father, James, is from Cartwright. Brown enlisted in the army in 2003 and was on his second combat tour when he died.

Brown is also survived by his daughter Alyssa Gomez and his mother Rosemary.
