PRINCETON, Tex. -- What was initially thought to be an accidental fire that killed a woman in Collin County is now a murder investigation.

Collin county sheriff's officials say Steven Michael Doyle is behind bars charged with the murder of his wife, 54-year-old Mary Sue Doyle.

The Princeton Fire Department responded to a call of a home fully involved on Saturday. The man told firefighters he and his wife just returned from a trip and were very tired.

The autopsy revealed a gunshot wound to the head.

Doyle voluntarily came to the Collin County Sheriff's Office on Monday and admitted to being upset with his wife and shooting her in the back of the head with a .22-caliber handgun. He also admitted to using gasoline to set the house on fire.

Doyle is being held at the Collin County Detention Center on a $750,000 bond.

I dated his daughter a a few months before he got back and he seemed like a good guy who was convicted falsely. Obviously not.

Hmm....looks white to me. Now Doyle may be of Irish descent, but most likely he was born in this country. So much for illegals (and why are we even going there in the first place, Beth? Turn off Maury and look closer). Whatever prompted him to shoot his wife musta been a doozy- has this guy always had this bad of a temper? Shoot the missus, burn the house down- good plan, Bunky. How were you going to explain the bullet in your wife's head? Enjoy Huntsville............

Re: the towel wrapped around his neck...This is standard procedure for mug shots taken in Collin Co. Not sure why, but they have been doing this for years.

He was tired all right. Tired of his wife apparently. Why didn't he just ignore her like other husbands?

Why does he have a towel wrapped around his neck? I hope my spelling and punctuation makes it past the grammer police! *teehee*

Sing it, Beth. We should make sure the people in this country are proficient in English. It's too easy for people to make up Anglo-sounding last names like Doyle to trick us. We need a better test. If they can't spell simple English words like 'illegal', or punctuate their questions with question marks, we should immediately deport them, no questions asked.
