DENISON, TX -- Some Denison High School students will have some extra regalia come Graduation Day. The Denison Independent School District and education foundation presented 168 seniors with their Texas Scholars medals.

Students earn the award by completing their students with the recommended program. It's a more rigorous course load than the regular plan. The students also enjoyed a hamburger along with the recognition.

"I’m proud of the community, that they support the kids in this, and recognize them and reward them, and a day off and a hamburger is kind of a small award for everything they've done to get here, but they really appreciate it," principal Cavin Boettger said.

The students plan to wear the medals on Graduation Day, May 31st.
