Operations to end soon at Sherman oil well

SHERMAN, Tex. -- A Sherman oil well will soon be dried up. City of Sherman officials say they are not affiliated with the project at Taylor and Crockett Streets, but say crews there are 'plugging the well,' which means they are using large pieces of equipment to stop its operations.

The Texas Railroad Commission handles the permitting, and apparently the well is not producing enough oil to keep it active.

Crews say upon completion they will clear the machinery from the scene.

If it costs more to pump it out than the oil is worth, why bother? Wells do dry up after a period of time.

You would think with the price of Oil these day, any well that is still pumping oil even if its just a gallon a day it would remain open.
