SHERMAN, Tex. -- Local law enforcement wished one of their own best of luck Friday afternoon in Sherman. Texas Ranger William Bennie was promoted to lieutenant earlier this year, but the promotion means the Sherman native will have to move his family to Tyler after spending most of his law enforcement career serving the people of North Texas.

Bennie was joined by members of the Grayson County Sheriff's Office and the Sherman Police Department. He says he appreciates all the support and is excited for the opportunity.

“All of our supervisory positions are in bigger cities so I knew it would require a move, and I wouldn't be coming back to Sherman after I promoted,” Bennie says.

Bennie is a Sherman High School graduate.
