SHERMAN, Tex. -- Grayson County commissioners have approved a plan to install mobile data terminals in sheriff's deputies’ patrol cars.
The terminals are basically laptop computers they can use to access reports, write reports, and eventually check a person's driver's license and criminal history.
Commissioners say this will help ease the strain on the dispatchers as well.
"It gives them a better access to all the tools that they need out in the field, plus it allows them to stay out where they're not having to come in," Grayson County Precinct 1 commissioner Johnny Waldrip says.
The county is paying for the units with a Department Of Homeland Security grant and will not use funds from the county budget.
