WHITESBORO, Tex. -- Some Whitesboro residents voluntarily evacuated their homes when city crews hit a gas main Thursday morning.

Atmos Energy workers sat the leak in now fixed.

Police say the city employees were working in a residential neighborhood at Second and White Street when they hit the main. A few of the residents decided to leave their homes just to be safe.

No injuries were reported. Services should be completely restored by midnight Thursday.

I hate to tell you this anon---it's not whitesboro's city crews---Texas State law recquires line locates to be called in at least 48 hours before excavation is to begin. I work for a municipal utility company, and we have problems with the locators for Atmos either not locating the lines at all or incorrectly locating the lines. Have faith in your city workers--it's not always their fault when something goes wrong.

That is nothing new, they hit two gas mains in that area in a 3 month span in 06-07's school year, once right outside the intermediate school, which i had to help evacuate. Whitesboro's town workers suck, and until that is fixed more of these are going to happen, next time might be while the kids are in class and an explosion rocks the school from a spark caused by one of their backhoes. Whitesboro needs alot of help getting their acts together with city workers and the carelessness that they do.
