McKINNEY, Texas (AP) - More than 100 dogs and cats being sheltered in Louisiana after Hurricane Gustav will be available for adoption in Texas.

The SPCA late Wednesday announced 78 dogs and 33 cats were being
transported to the group's animal care center in McKinney, about 30
miles north of Dallas.

The animals were at a shelter in Lake Charles, and available for adoption, before being moved to a facility in Shreveport as Gustav approached Louisiana.

The hurricane made landfall Monday.

The SPCA says the cats and dogs are being transported to Texas
so the Lake Charles Animal Control shelter can assist with the pets
of hurricane evacuees.

If those folks in LA have pets, they should TAKE THEM WITH THEM when they evacuate. Don't put off your strays on us. We have enough already! g'day

People in Louisiana shouldn't be allowed to have pets. Pets can't make the choice not to live in a pit. How many times should we bail out the people. I read once that a wise man doesn't build his house upon the sand. And in these case below sea level on the sand. The whole area should be condemend an dpit off limits. Throwing good money after bad isn't going to fix the problem here.

So these arent' the pets of evacuees, they are abandoned, returned, or stray pets from Lousiana. Do you suppose the cost of caring for them will fall under disaster relief from the government?
