SHERMAN, Tex. -- This week's A+ Athlete is Emily Kirby from Texoma Christian School in Sherman.

Emily is a standout on the Eagles volleyball team, earning a spot on the All-State First Team last year and helping her team reach the ‘final four.’

It’s a sport she has been involved in since she was in sixth grade, and her coach, Dan Turner, says her passion for the game is obvious.

“She has a tremendous passion for volleyball. She plays year-round for clubs, and she plays here at the high school, but it’s seeing her work ethic, how hard she practices, and her desire to not only win, but to be a winner herself.”

Emily’s skills on the court have translated to success in the classroom as well. She has a 4.0 grade point average and is a member of the National Honor Society.

In addition to all she does on and off the court, Emily just returned from a mission trip to Mexico and is involved with the TCS Care-A-Thon and Adopt-A-Highway Program.

Next year, Emily plans on attending Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, where she will continue to play the game she loves.

“I’m so excited. It’s just a dream come true. My mom went there, so when they started recruiting me, I was really excited,” Emily says.

Congratulations to Emily Kirby on being named this week’s A+ Athlete.

We'll introduce you to another A+ Athlete every Friday here on First News AM. School officials, coaches, teachers, and counselors are encouraged to send in your nominees.
