COOKE COUNTY, Tex. -- Cooke County District Attorney Cindy Stormer resigned from office on Monday, but reasons surrounding her decision remain a mystery.

Cooke County Judge Bill Freeman says she did turn her resignation into Governor Rick Perry’s Office on Monday afternoon, effective immediately.

Stormer was defeated in the Republican Primary back in March. She would have been leaving office in December.

It is unclear who will fill the position left by Stormer’s resignation. Cooke County assistant district attorney Martin Peterson could take over, or Governor Perry could appoint a replacement.

Our calls to Stormer were not returned.

Total convictions? Give me a break. You must work for her. Plea bargains don’t count for a conviction in my book. Taking a murder suspect with a confession and giving him less time than a burglar is not a conviction. Giving a child molester a plea for half of the cases filed on him is not a conviction. Maybe the local law enforcement would give her more trust and supportif they could trust her to see out the cases they have built while putting their lives at stake to do so. You should try going to work every day knowing that any person you come in contact with can put a bullet in you at any moment. Try not leaving your house until you are sure you BULLET RESISTANT vest is strapped on tight and your means of survival is loaded. Then after a fight with the local drug dealer, file a case to only have it plead to the minimal sentence. Trust and support? Where was hers when it was needed? She’s gone! Now we can trust and hope that our pain and effort will pay off for the people

You don't have to worry about losing anything with Cindy Stormer being gone. She wasn't doing anything anyhow. And that's not meant to be funny. If it bothers you that much, request all the figures from the State Attorney General's Office. They maintain records of all cases filed and the disposition. Might prove to be worse than some people thought. Just count your blessings and be thankful the majority in Cooke County saw fit to vote her out of office.

Would those villages who have lost their idiots please come claim them?! At least Cindy Stormer hasn’t been convicted by a judge for wrongdoing…unlike another future courthouse tenant I know of. (Don’t take my word for it; check the Dallas court records and the media for yourself.) FYI: “convicted” means Warder was found guilty and that was by a judge, not a jury. Speaking of convictions, though, Cindy Stormer's record shows there was an INCREASE in convictions during her tenure (again check the REAL records.) That means she and her staff showed up and did their job – like they’re supposed to. In case I need to spell it out: You don’t get convictions by LOSING. You can however get them by knowing what you're doing and doing what you know is right. With Ms. Stormer's absence, we’re all going to lose. I’m sure Warder will be good for the county… at least for a certain element anyway.

in reading the gainesville register the last paragraph states that there has been a decline in felony cases filed since she took office. I dont think it is because of her tough law. I think probably the real problems is lack of trust and support of her from law enforcement. I hope Warder does a good job and from the comments made about her from the the local officers it seems she will be great for the county

Thank God!! She is the most ridiculous excuse of a DA I have ever had the misery of dealing with!!!!! Now all we need is for the smartest man she knows to do the same!!!

I just wish we could get rid of our DA in Carter County. Maybe just start over with a clean slate. Congrats Cooke County
