PARIS, TX -- The City of Paris has gone wet just in time for the big holiday weekend for merchants.

Thursday was the first day businesses and restaurants were allowed to sell beer or wine in the City of Paris. Voters approved the sale of beer and wine only in businesses and restaurants earlier this year.

It was a hot topic in Paris for months, with many for the allowance of alcohol saying it would help boost sales at local restaurants and businesses.

Opponents we talked to said bringing alcohol to Paris would just bring more problems, like higher crime and more traffic accidents, with it.

The first purchase was a case of Budweiser beer at a local grocery store Thursday afternoon.
