All across Texoma, cities are losing city managers and having to hire new ones. It’s a trend that worries some, but a trend that might not go away anytime soon.
Sherman...Bonham...Durant...all of them have or will lose city managers within a four month period.
"The days of having a city manager do everything are over,” said Sherman Mayor Bill Magers.
Sherman mayor Bill Magers and the Sherman city council are in the process of looking for a replacement for former city manager Scott Wall and it’s the relationship between the council and the manager that is key in the mind of Magers.
Earlier this month, Bonham city leaders hired Corby Alexander to replace outgoing Blaine Hines, who is retiring. The city of Durant picked their own Jim Dunegan to replace Paul Buntz.
"I have a lot invested in Durant, its my city,” said Dunegan.
Each of those cities wanting candidates that can lead their growing cities into the future, something which new Van Alstyne city manager Bill Harrington says is vital for success in this position. Harrington says that the challenge for city managers in this part of the country is to make sure to take growth and use it to their advantage.
