LOVE COUNTY – It’s an animal attack Love County authorities call shocking – a buck charges and injures a woman in Enville, in her own backyard. Shelby Levins brings us the story - but a warning, the video in this story may be disturbing to some.

Love County Undersheriff Jason Bone shot and killed the 7-point whitetail buck that attacked a woman. Bone said the deer charged toward him and he had no other choice but to shoot it. He says the whole ordeal is still hard to believe.

"It's a crazy deal. I would have never thought it, but it happened today. One day before deer season and deer is running wild attacking people,” Bone explained.

Bone says the buck attacked a woman outside an Enville home on Envill-Ran Road. The woman reportedly tried to offer the animal water to keep it from jumping into the gated pool area.

Luckily the woman escaped the attack, running inside with just scrapes and bruises. That's when she called for help.

"He was looking for something to hurt. I really don't know what was going through his mind. But he started coming at me and when he did I shot him,” Bone said.

It took Bone and another deputy three shots to take down the 130 pound buck. But what caused the animal to attack?

"The urge to reproduce,” Love County Game Warden Bob Mullinax explained. “This young buck, he might have had some does around and he might have perceived the woman as a threat."

Mullinax says deer are currently in their rut, or mating season, and can be aggressive. The game warden says while deer attacks are rare, wild animals are unpredictable and should not be approached.

"There have been instances where deer have killed people, their hooves are sharp and when they fight they not only use their antlers, they use their front legs,” Mullinax said.

Mullinax said this is the first deer attack he's ever heard of in Love County, but cautions people to be careful.

Bone says he's just thankful no one was seriously injured.

"You know you never really realize what they can do until you see if first hand. And I saw it first hand today and it's pretty amazing,” Bone said.
