General Electric, in cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission, is recalling approximately 2.5 (m) million GE dishwashers.
GE says the liquid rinse aid can leak from its dispenser onto the dishwasher's internal wiring which can cause an electrical short and Overheating, posing a fire hazard to consumers.
The recall includes GE built-in dishwashers sold under brand names including:
Eterna
GE
GE Profile
GE Monogram
Hotpoint
Sears Kenmore
The dishwashers were sold in department and appliance stores from September 1997 through December 2001 for about $400.
Consumers are urged to stop using the dishwasher and contact GE for a free repair or rebates for new units.
