TISHOMINGO, Okla. -- Water problems have been a constant headache for one Johnston County city, but Tishomingo officials are looking into other sources to help improve the city's water problems.
Tishomingo's city manager says the Oak Hills water line has been problematic for several years. Its effects are draining the city's money and resources.
Now, Tishomingo city leaders are discussing loans and grants
Their plan is to apply for grants and loans, totaling around $6 million. Half will go to sewer improvements; the other half for water line improvements including replacing the problematic Oak Hills line.
Jack Yates, Tishomingo city manager, says, "It’s decades old… somewhere to fifty to seventy years old…we constantly have water and sewer problems."
Tishomingo resident David Brown agrees, "The infrastructure of our water systems is deteriorating, and we have to look to other sources to get a fix here."
Every time there is a water main break, the city loses an estimated $1,000 because of water loss and labor.
Council members are set to discuss details of grant and loan on Monday.
