A man with ties to the Gainesville area has been arrested for a murder out of Florida.

Police say 45-year-old David Byron Russ allegedly killed 58-year-old Madeline Lienen at her Longwood, Florida, home on May 8th.

Russ allegedly fled to north Texas, first stopping to use her ATM card.

Gainesville police say after Russ killed Lienen, he took her car, replaced the Florida license plates with ones stolen from Louisiana, and made his way to north Texas.

That's when a Gainesville resident informed police that Russ was in the area, starting an area-wide man hunt for him.

Russ was arrested by the Denton County Sheriff's Office on Wednesday.

Gainesville Police Chief Carl Dunlap says he's happy that everyone worked together to bring down a man he calls “a dangerous criminal”.

"You’ve got to have information exchange, once we have identified this person was wanted out there, it was just a matter of getting specific info and looking for him."

Gainesville police say they will continue to work with the Seminole County Sheriff's Office in Florida until the case is finished.

The motive for the murder is unknown at this time, but authorities say they do not believe Russ knew Lienen.

Russ is currently being held in the Denton County Jail.

I am glad that David was caught but I think it is funny that no one has figured out that he lived in Denton. He is my step father, although not for much longer!
