MARSHALL COUNTY, Okla. -- The developers at Lake Texoma Lodge say plans to give them tax incentives are running into trouble in the State Legislature.
The original plan called for the developers to receive tax credits which could be sold.
However a new proposal would designate the areas for tax increment financing- meaning some of the sales and property taxes could be used to pay for the developments.
Representatives of Pointe Vista Development says the Lake Texoma Lodge project will go forward even without the incentives.
Pointe Vista officials say Texas offers the kinds of incentives they're asking the Oklahoma Legislature to provide, which would make their project even more appealing to visitors.
Investors say they're looking to pay for some of the development with tax dollars and extra sales revenue.
For example, instead of building an Olympic-sized swimming pool, they would like to build an indoor water park to attract more visitors.
Pointe Vista officials say they're looking to the state's birthday as a reason behind beefing up the project.
Pointe Vista director Scott Fischer says, "We would also like receive support from Oklahoma. We think it is important with Oklahoma celebrating its centennial. We look at the fact there is not a four-star resort in Oklahoma."
State Senator Johnnie Crutchfield's office says there isn’t much support for the tax incentive. Legislators say the proposal only benefits resort developers and not the entire state.
Pointe Vista developers say the project is still a go--regardless of what lawmakers decided.
Their decision is expected on Friday.
