Fallen Carter Co. officers remembered

Video will be available shortly.

CARTER COUNTY, Okla. -- Carter County law enforcement agents paused today to remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.

Since 1916, eleven officers from Ardmore, Wilson, Gene Autry, Healdton, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, and the Carter County Sheriff's Office have lost their lives on the job.

With flags flying at half staff and the Ardmore Honor Guard looking on, colleagues honored these fallen heroes, recognizing their courage and dedication.

"The word that comes out is respect, letting these guys know they paid the ultimate price for our freedom," said interim Ardmore Police Chief John Ryan.

The last officer killed in the line of duty was Doug Durington of Healdton.

He died in a car crash while pursuing a motorcycle in 1985.
