Flooding In Bryan County

In Bryan County, residents continue to cleanup after heavy rains swept through the area.

It's a rude awakening and reminder of what Mother Nature is capable of leaving behind.

“Rain, Rain go away, come again another day.” The same song many Oklahoma residents have been singing the past few days.

"Anything I can find to stop the water I've got woods, gutters, anything to stop the water, that's what I’ve put up."

Irene Moore lives on University Avenue in Durant. On this day, she's desperately trying to clean up what mother nature left behind. "It's never been this bad before because I've never had to come out and barricade before."

Her neighbor Tanya Lindley says the same. "Our yard drains towards University. So it often seems like it's flooded but not as bad as this with the bar ditches running full and over university."

But the two women say their isn't much they can do and Mother Nature, doesn't plan on leaving anytime soon.

Nicole says, "What if I told you the rain won't stop until Thursday?"
Irene says, “Oh my. I guess I'll be out here day in and day out."

But some residents don't have the same optimistic view. Patrecia Young has lived in this home for years. She's disabled, retired, and running out of options. This weekend’s downpour didn't help her situation. "You never expect water. It Just poured down off the roof and made a big lake in front of my door and house. Of course it will seep into any cracks and doors and it came right through the door up to my couch."

The carpet is soaked, puddles of water appear with just a touch of the foot.

Now the clean up begins and for so many. What they thought was the end, was only the beginning..

Is any organization or church group helping people, such as Patrecia Young, in Durant? It seems this would be a good ministry to start.
