Denison man drowns in Red River

CALERA, Okla. -- Imagine driving thirty miles and paying only a dollar! It may seem like a dream, but it's a reality for a Calera man who recently built an electric car.
Electric cars aren't a new concept; the first one was introduced in the late 1800’s, but a Calera man is using an old technology in a new way.
Mike Barkley says he read about electric cars online and bought a 1994 Mitsubishi Eclipse for $200. He says he began converting the car to full electricity about four months ago.
In his spare time, the car runs off of 13 golf cart batteries and takes about six hours to fully charge.
Once charged, it will run between 30 and 50 miles before having to plug in again.
Barkley says the entire car cost about $2,000 to build, and since each charge costs about one dollar, he says it's a worthwhile investment.
"It’s very easy to do. I’m not a mechanic, I’m a computer tech by trade, and if I can do it anyone can do it."
There are several website online if you're interested in electric cars. They’re listed below.
