ARDMORE, Okla. -- Carter County health officials are planning an emergency preparedness drill to make sure our area is ready in case of a bio-terror attack, but they say it can't happen without volunteers.

Carter County health and emergency responders want to develop a safe and efficient system to protect citizens in case of a bio-terrorism event.

They say this drill will help them do that.

Love and Johnston Counties will also take part in the drill on June 21st. Health and emergency officials say they would need to vaccinate everyone in south central Oklahoma within 48 hours at a rate of 2000 people per hour.

If an actual bio terror attack occurred, officials are asking for at least 500 people to volunteer for the Carter County location and at least 200 others to take part in the drills in Love and Johnston counties.

FEMA officials and state evaluators will 'grade' the drill to see what the county health departments need to improve.

"The health department is designated to respond for any health threat or any bio terrorism event in our county. As the Carter County Health Department, we will be responsible for any threat in Carter County," said Clarizza Carol of the Carter County Health Department.
